Srinagar: In yet another example of giving misguided youth a chance to return to the mainstream, Indian Army on Tuesday returned a youngster to his family who surrendered following an encounter with security forces in Pulwama’s Awantipora.
During the encounter with two armed men yesterday, security forces made an announcement for surrender but one of the individuals refused to surrender and was gunned down by the forces.
However, the second terrorist came out by responding to the announcements. He took off his feran (traditional wear) to show that he wasn’t carrying a weapon and was apprehended. The youth’s weapon was later recovered from the spot, confirmed the Indian Army.
The Chinar Corps shared a video of the misguided youth in which he could be seen telling his story. In another video, he could be seen reuniting with his family.
Meanwhile, the Corps tweeted, “The individual, who was pursuing BTech, came home during COVID & was misled by a friend to join terrorism. #IndianArmy in its effort to bring youth back to family, extends all possible help to the misguided youth to shun the path of violence & return to mainstream society.”
