National Education Day 2020: Every year 11 November is celebrated as National Education Day in India. This Azad is celebrated on the occasion of the birthday of Maulana Azad Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of India. Maulana Abul Kalam was born on 11 November 1888.

Sahitya Akademi, Sangeet Natya Akademi, Lalit Kala Akademi were formed in the year 1950 with the help of Maulana Azad. During his tenure, Maulana Azad established schools, colleges, and universities in India. Maulana Azad was the first Education Minister after India’s independence. He also established the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

Maulana Azad is considered a major contributor to the field of modern science. He believed that national education had no importance until it was passed on to women. Maulana Azad also used to say that primary education should be imparted in the mother tongue only.
